: The Ripperger Painting
An image by H Ripperger depicting Private Morrow's heroic activities was produced. It was titled 'Private Morrow rescuing men from beneath the debris of trenches at Messines.
The note below reads:
'At Messines on the 12th April 1915, several men were buried beneath the debris of trenches which had been wrecked by shellfire. On his own initiative Private Robert Morrow, of the 1st Battalion Princess Victoria's Royal Irish Fusiliers, went to their assistance, rescuing them and taking them and taking them to places of comparative safety. Morrow carried out this work under very heavy shell fire, and for his conspicuous bravery he was awarded the V.C.'
