: From the Tyrone Courier dated 21st October 1915
In October 1915, Mrs Morrow received the following personal letter from His Majesty the King relative to her son, Private Robert Morrow. According to a report in the Courier (Figure 7.06), it stated:
The King and Newmills V.C.
Mrs Morrow, Sessia, Newmills, has received the following personal letter from His Majestsy the King relative to her son, Private Robert Morrow, 1st (Princess Victoria's) Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, who won the Victoria Cross while encouraging the wounded at Messines on 12th April last, but was killed at St Julien on 25th April when performing smiliar acts of heroism:-
"Buckingham Place, 15 October 1915. It is a matter of great regret to me that the death of Private Robert Morrow deprived me of the pride of personally conferring upon him the Victoria Cross, the greatest of all our distinctions".
